What Comes First, The Chicken Or The Egg?
Did the chicken came first before the egg or is it the other way around? Neither of which is the answer, the chicken coop came first and if you have one you can produce plenty more chickens and eggs.
How to build a chicken coup? It depends on the size, really. Chicken coops that are used for business require a substantial amount of area. But if you just want something for the family, particularly, if you’re just interested in having supplies for eggs, then you can build a chicken coup in the backyard.
A chicken has two particular needs to grow. What chickens need is a good ventilation and some quite, warm place. A dog house-looking hen house is viable as long as you put it in an open space, like I mentioned, the backyard. Doing so can be very healthy for your chicken as they can freely wander around in the yard and can go back to the coup when it wants to.
You’ll find a variety of sites with hundreds of designs for small chicken house farms. While a dog house-looking hen house is viable for the backyard, families that have children want to contain the chickens in a certain place so that the children will not get diseases through the chicken poop. Using screens to contain your chickens is ideal as they can still breathe around for air.
Depending on the style, chicken coops can be bought costing as much as $2,000. It is not hard to build a chicken coup so it is not advisable for you to spend that much. It can be made simply with the use of plywood. Just like that of a miniature house, you can construct one by forming a cube but not including the ground and ceiling area. Just place it in the ground and roof it with a triangular style. It’s as easy as that.
A chick or chicken should ideally have at least an area of around two feet square of leg room. This is how you calculate how big your chicken coop should be, it would depend on the number of chicken you want to house. Without the ventilation though, give each chicken a leg room of at least five-foot square. However you ill see in industrial chicken farming that chickens are squeezed tightly together, this is because the owners want to generate as much profit by having more chickens. But the thing is, the chicken is not meant to be given leg room there because they are immediately destined to become fried chicken anyway. For backyard farming though, we want the chicken to be healthy and happy to deliver more eggs for our omelets.
