Need to know how to plant over garden gone wild, to make food via permaculture?
Fields for neighbours, Wales. Garden gone a bit wild, but I need to plant onions, carrots etc.
Permaculture pretty much = mulch
Lots of permaculture groups in Wales, especially Lampeter way. Go talk to local people to find out what is successfull where you are. (eg Few apple varieties will grow well in Wales – too wet)
Study what is growing now and the relationships, eg pest, predator, rainfall & drainage, sun & shade …
Then decide what you want to do – washin line, entertaining, animals … Permaculture is a design process to get what you want with least input.
Zone the garden so annuals are near the house/where you will walk past each day, out to forest garden then wilderness at the periphery so you can see the sorts of plants and relationships that thrive in your locality.
Onions, carrots etc are easy and cheap to get from local suppliers, but take effort to grow and manage (hoeing, thinning, fleece cover), then need to be stored carefully.
